The Play House, a multi-purpose aluminum 8x8' cube, is a new nomadic version of artist-curator Marianne Bernstein's previous project, The Welcome House (Love Park, 2009). During DesignPhiladelphia 2011, The Play House will debut in the University of the Arts Lot on Broad Street, from October 19-23. Twelve artists teams have been invited to activate vacant lots throughout Philadelphia and document it through short films. These films will be projected on the spandex shell of the Play House from 7-10pm along with other installations by architecture students at PennDesign. Performance schedule from 4-7pm TBA.

The Play House was designed in collaboration with Daryn Edwards of Interface Studio Architects and fabricated by EnMotion Design. Video production by Kevin Francis Farrell and Peter Parker Brodhead. NEWS FLASH:

We are delighted to announce that our Broad Street neighbor, Leroy Glenn from The Sound of Philadelphia, Philadelphia International Records signed on today as a major music producer of The Play House during DesignPhiladelphia.

From Oct.19-23rd, performances in the cube will include new talent scouted by Mr. Glenn.

A 45 year veteran of Gamble-Huff Music, we can’t wait for his line-up. Stay tuned for our upcoming performance schedule. All performances will be filmed daily and projected onto the cube.

Other performances include: Jacolby Satterwhite (Wednesday, Oct. 19th); Tamara Suber (Thursday, Oct. 20th); singer-songwriter Birdie Busch (Friday, Oct. 21); and Vince Johnson/ IllReality (Saturday, Oct. 22nd).
